What is EPR E waste License under E waste Management Rules
Ever since electronics manufacturing and import started in India, e-waste management rules were made in India in 2016. Now it has been said in those rules that whoever imports or manufactures electronics in India or survives by branding it like this, he himself has to take the responsibility of recycling the material or should I say that he has to take the responsibility of disposing of it. Now they will not take the responsibility because they are doing some work like a trader or the other. Such traders have to connect with the e-waste recyclers who will take the responsibility for the recycling.
Now, the question was how much E Waste recyclers will recycle the waste of these producer-importer and brand owners. Under the E- Waste Management Rules 2016 and the subsequent revised Waste Management Rules 2022, the Central Pollution Control Board stated that these PIBO's ( Producers Importers and Brand Owners) must obtain an EPR license. This EPR license will define the percentage of e-waste to be recycled each year. EPR stands for Extended Producer Responsibility. How to process for EPR E waste License and Documents Required
The Central Pollution Control Board has created a platform for obtaining an EPR license. The Central Pollution Control Board has released an EPR e-waste portal. After logging in, certain details are requested from these producers importers & brand owners. Those details are written below.
After receiving these details, it can be submitted to the online application. After submission, the government fee will be determined based on the import or manufacturing data.
After uploading all the required documents, that government fee will have to be paid and after paying, an acknowledgement will be issued for it. According to that acknowledgement, if the Central Pollution Control Board finds any objection, then it can put objection in the file and ask them to upload more information and if everything is ok, then according to that the concern authority will issue them an EPR license. It will be mentioned in the EPR license that what is their target for the next year and how much E waste they have to give to the recycler for recycling.
Whenever anyone imports any electronics in India, then this license will be mandatory for them to show at the customs. They will not be able to clear their goods from the port. This electronics will include electronic material, IT appliances, computers, laptops and all types of electrical appliances are included in it.
