Governing bodies:

The Director General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) sets the regulations for India's foreign trade and issues the notices and guidelines to monitor and approve the metal scrap import license. DGFT has launched an online module to streamline the application process for recognition as a Pre-Shipment Inspection Agency (PSIA). This also covers the issuance and electronic verification of Pre-Shipment Inspection Certificates (PSICs) for metal scrap. PSICs (pre-shipment inspection certificates) are generated online via the DGFT website.
SOP for Imported Consignments
DGFT has laid down the SOP (standard operating procedures) for random checking of imported metal scrap consignments with respect to radioactive contamination. The end goal of these procedures is to ensure safety and regulatory compliance while dealing with metal scrap import license in India.
Compulsory Registration under Steel Import Monitoring System (SIMS)
