The Plastic Waste Processor License (PWP) is a mandatory authorization for businesses involved in recycling, processing, or managing plastic waste in India. Issued under the Plastic Waste Management Rules, this license ensures that operations are carried out in an environmentally responsible and compliant manner.

Businesses planning to enter the recycling sector must obtain a Plastic Recycling License along with necessary approvals to legally operate and handle plastic waste. The PWP License plays a crucial role in regulating how waste is collected, processed, and reused within the system.

To obtain this license, applicants must set up a compliant facility and submit detailed documentation, including business registration, plant layout, processing methods, and environmental safety measures. This process is also an important step for companies planning Plastic Waste Recycling Plant Setup in India, as proper approvals are required before starting operations.

The license is applicable to recyclers, manufacturers, and processors dealing with plastic waste. It ensures adherence to regulatory guidelines and promotes sustainable waste management practices across the industry.

In addition to regulatory compliance, obtaining a Plastic Waste Recycling License further strengthens business credibility and enables smooth functioning within the legal framework. It also supports long-term sustainability by encouraging responsible recycling and reducing environmental impact.

How to Process for PWP Registration by a Plastic Recycler

PWP Registration is one of the compliance or licences which a Plastic Recycler has to take. The process of the same is mentioned below

  1. Firstly have to take approval from State Pollution Control Board (SPCB) for Consent to Establishment Certificate (CTE)
  2. Then after setting up the machinery they have to apply for Consent to Operate (CTO). After the inspection done from SPCB, if requirements are fulfilled then grant CTO Certificate.
  3. Now the Plastic Recycler has to submit the application for PWP Registration on (CPCB) Central Pollution Control Board portal that is eprplastic.cpcb.gov.in.
  4.  After submission of all the details and respective documents on the portal, the      SPCB/CPCB after verification and inspection will grant the PWP License to a Plastic Recycler.

Why PWP Registration is Required.

After getting registration under PWP Compliance , a Plastic Recycler will be authorised to transfer the EPR Plastic credits to a Plastic Importer, Producer and Brand Owner.(PIBO). And presently EPR Credits is the additional financial support to a Plastic recycler to generate revenue.
